read lines from file randomly

it's so simple i need to read lines from a file randomly , and sort the data in an array or something , it must read each line just once

Give us a chance to help you. Please post an example of the file and explain how you want the data sorted. At the moment we would just be whistling in the dark if we suggested anything at all.

P.S. All we need is a few lines of the file - post it with [code] before and [/code] after the text so it appears neatly in a box.

Can you explain why you have to read them randomly and then sort them?

Can't you just read the whole file to an array, sort it and then access the records?

How large is the file we are talking about?

I don't feel like doing all the work, but I came up with some code for randomizing an array of number, which could be used to randomize a length of file lines to read. The OP should at least try something. Don't expect others to write all your code for you.

From that less than helpful post I take it you are looking to sort a list of usernames in a random manner. If that is indeed the case, i recommend that you read the file into an array with _FileReadToArray and then use jchd's excellent random sort algorithm on it.
