Create Path Variable in Windows 8

I am developing a new program on Windows 8 x64 and I a path variable doesn't seem to be created. Example:

#include <file.ay3>
_PathMake ( "z:", "\tools", "filterdriver", "sys")

I go and check the PATH variable in the Environment variables window, and the new path is not added.

I was referred to creating a path variable because I am dealing with a program that looks for a file and can't find it, as such it fails to run. This program only looks in its own DIR, and does not use the standard search path I'd normally expect of a Windows app. The program and its .sys file both exist on a network drive.

Do I need more than this to create a Path Variable?

You need the EnvSet command, all _PathMake does is it returns the path to a variable that you supply it in the various parameters you send the function. Unfortunately, the variables set through EnvSet only exist as long as your script is running. If you need a permanent environment variable you'll need to use something like this (untested).

Run(@Comspec & " /c set %path%" & $yournewpath)

That's some good info, but unfortunately I determined that it won't make a difference. The app is not using the PATH variable to find files as it is... So I need a way to "trick" the program to look for the file on the network, rather than wherever it is running from...
