How do i select an item in a listbox by its index/text?

When using _GUICtrlListBox_SelItem() I get ==> Unknown function name.:

#include <WindowsConstants.au3>

#include <Array.au3>

#include <File.au3>

#include <GUIConstants.au3>

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>

#include <WindowsConstants.au3>

#include <GuiListBox.au3>

Can't find anything in the help not even google.

Try using _GUICtrlListbox_SelItemRange or *_SelItemRangeEX

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

In my opinion the help file is excellently documenting 90% of the functions in it. Seeing as how you used a function name that doesn't exist I can only assume you used a function from another UDF and tried to adapt it, or a pie e of code from elsewhere without copying all of it

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

as a newbie i am, only now i'm getting that there are some 'parallel' codes and includes that aggrgate into autoit.

I don't really know how those parallel code works, but when i typed list box select in the help file it found nothing.

Well, normally if you're going to be using a ListBox, you would open the help file and look for functions that deal with ListBoxes. Where did you get the function name that you posted in the first post in this thread? Was it something that you just thought of on your own, or grabbed something from somewhere else?

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

The autoit GUI is so poorly documented. :(

Be productive, not anti-productive. Provide examples of how you think it should be improved for new users. There is a sub-forum in the Dev group, so post your working examples there.

In AutoHotkey's help file I can find anything in the help document. But in Autoit's I rather use google.

Why will I post there some suggestion like 'improve the help file search' when i know i wont be heard?

That's because you're only using the help file for native AutoIt functions. If you use SciTE (or better SciTE4AutoIt3) then hit F1 and voila.

This is very useful when you KNOW the exact command and want some reference/example. Other than that won't help.

By what you said, i suppose that I'd have to ** somehow ** discover the function "_GUICtrlListbox_SelItemRange" then type and select it on Scite and then Press F1, then i get the help.

Now, how can i know of _GUICtrlListbox_SelItemRange if my Crystal Ball is broken?

That's because you're only using the help file for native AutoIt functions. If you use SciTE (or better SciTE4AutoIt3) then hit F1 and voila.

And this is why the two should be combined, it's confusing for new users when there are 2 help files dealing with each type of command (internal/UDF).

I disagree, but if the user selects AutoIt3Help.exe then there is no problem.
