unsure what data I am getting

Recommended Posts

I am not sure what I am getting when I issue these commands. I was expecting to see "7.50" or "7.70" not "117440562" or "117440582". It doesn't look like HEX, so what is it?

What I am trying to do is to find a way to say if this reg key is there, this do this else if this reg key is there, do this other thing.

MsgBox(0,"java 7.50",RegRead("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F83217005FF}","Version"))

MsgBox(0,"java 7.70",RegRead("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F83217007FF}","Version"))

RUN . . . Slide . . . TAG . . . Your out . . . PAINTBALL !!!

You have to interpret the value you get from RegRead. According to the docu @extended holds the type of the value.

$Value = RegRead("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall{26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F83217005FF}","Version")
If @error then Exit MsgBox(0, "Error", "Error reading the registry: " & @error)
$iType = @extended
Switch $iType
    Case <value>
        ; $Value = statement
    Case Else
        ; $Value = statement
EndSwitch
MsgBox(0,"java 7.50", $Value)

Use DisplayVersion instead of Version for the key name.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I wanted to give an update and I have finished the script. I did use the DisplayVerison. I didn't realize that I was using the wrong reg key. Once I figured that out, the rest was simple. Thanks for all the help. It really was a Monday.
