help with repeat

I need to cycle through items in a main folder. If the today is 10-15-12..........and subfolder1 name is 10-15-12, then I would need to get the full name of the subfolder and copy that subfolder to a destination. Some items in the main folder would be files not folders so I would need to weed out the files and only concentrate on the folders.

can anyone help me code this, thanks.

Apply the same logic as when you learnt AppleScript, read the help file!

Apple forums give out code without any effort being done on the part of the person asking? They must love typing the same thing over and over again. There's a help file for a reason, you've been given the start of the commands to use, all you need to do is find out how they work to do what you want. Make the effort.

You're getting there. So now look up _ArrayDisplay in the help file to show you what you have in your $folders array. Then, look at StringinStr() to narrow the search, as has been suggested. Something like this:

$folders = _FileListToArray($folder_path)
_ArrayDisplay($folders)

For $folder in $folders
     If StringInStr(<put your parameters here>) Then
         DirCopy(<source path>, <destination path>, [flag])

ahhhhh........thats what I needed.......the Applescript way is this.

repeat with a_folder in the_master folder

set the_name to name of a_folder

if a_name contains "123" then

create folder

end if

end repeat

what I need to do is:

1. repeat with every folder,

2. get the folder name,

3. create a folder at a destination,

4. give that new folder the same name,

5. then copy the directory to the newly created folder

does all that make sense.

It's not the name of the variable you're using that's at issue, it's the fact that using For...In...Next when using _FileListToArray is problematical, because the first element in the array is the count of items found. You should use For $folder = 1 to $Folder[0]...Next this way you don't try to copy a folder that doesn't exist.
