kylomas
The following code does not produce the expected result (expect '3', getting '5') local $str1 = '1167-10' consolewrite(stringinstr($str1,'-',default,-1) & @lf) if @error then consolewrite('!>' & @error & @lf) Also tried subsituting the 'default' keyword with '0' to no avail. I got around it using stringlen($str1)-stringinstr($str1,'-')) Searched for 'stringinstr' and 'occurence' but do not see any hits for problems. Moderators Melba23 Posted October 22, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 22, 2012 kylomas,I would have expected 5 and that is what I get. kylomas
guinness,Thanks for the prompt reply.ThisUse a negative occurrence to search from the right side. makes me believe that the search starts at the end and proceeds to the searched for char and returns the result relative to the starting point. kylomas
M23, Yes, the actual use is to get the right most portion of a string up to a delimiter. JohnOne
Yes, but you have not given a starting point. 5th parameter. EDIT: Not correct regarding relativity, see M23 post below. Moderators Melba23 Posted October 22, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 22, 2012 kylomas,No, the return is still relative to the left - as I mentioned above the other String* functions use the left as the origin, so that is what is returned. kylomas
M23, et al, Thanks, obviously I was making a bad assumption (please do NOT start with the tired, old 'ass out of you and me' comments). As I said, this was part of a 'stringright' stmt. However, this begs the question, 'what is the "occurrence" parm used for"? kylomas Forum Rules Procedure for posting code "I like pigs.
