Hey,

this Is the way i want to do the below, but is it posible, that it only remembers the =+ 2 in that function? so it doesnt actually save it outside that function and therefor the msgbox in function2, will be "1" insted of "2". Without making more variables

Local $_Number = 1
_Function1()
_Function2()
Func _Function1()
$_Number = 2
EndFunc
Func _Function2()
MsgBox(0,"",$_Number)
EndFunc

Yes. Define the variable as Local to Function1:

Func _Function1()
Local $_Number = 2
EndFunc

Search the help file for "Scope" and you will understand how it works.

You'd be incorrect about that. The message box will show 2 in it because the variable is declared as global, even though you used local to declare it, its scope is still global.

EDIT: This is in response to the OP and not the previous post. :)

gnomic,

Do it like this:

Global $_Number = 1

_Function1()

_Function2()

Func _Function1()
    Local $_Number = 2
EndFunc

Func _Function2()
    MsgBox(0,"",$_Number)
EndFunc

But I do not recommend using the same variable name - it will just lead to confusion. ;)

You might find the Variables - using Global, Local and ByRef tutorial in the Wiki an interesting read. :)

@BrewManNH,

I know :)

@Gnomic,

It's bad coding style to name a local variable like an already existing global variable. Do explicit variable definition by specifying the scope. This avoids undesired results!

Thanks for the quicks responds guys, but its not giving me the correct results, i want it to msgbox "3" followed by "1":

Global $_Number = 1
_Function1()
_Function2()
Func _Function1()
Local $_Number =+ 2
MsgBox(0, "", $_Number)
EndFunc
Func _Function2()
MsgBox(0,"",$_Number)
EndFunc

It should use a variable and being able to add numbers to it, without it remembering it after the function is done.

In this case you have to pass the global variable as a parameter. A parameter which doesn't use ByRef is automatically defined as Local and set to the value of the global variable.

Global $_Number = 1
_Function1($_Number)
_Function2()
Func _Function1($_Number)
   $_Number =+ 2
   MsgBox(0, "", $_Number)
EndFunc
Func _Function2()
   MsgBox(0,"",$_Number)
EndFunc

The line

$_Number =+ 2
is wrong. The operator is "+=" not "=+".

Try this:

Global $_Number = 1

_Function1($_Number)

_Function2()

Func _Function1($in)
    Local $_Number = 2 + $in
    MsgBox(0, "", $_Number)
EndFunc

Func _Function2()
    MsgBox(0,"",$_Number)
EndFunc

yes, the following returned "3" then "1"

Global $_Number = 1
_Function1($_Number)
_Function2()
Func _Function1($_Number)
$_Number += 2
MsgBox(0, "", $_Number)
EndFunc
Func _Function2()
MsgBox(0,"",$_Number)
EndFunc

edit: i tried without the local declaration though, which seems to blow it up.
