GUICtrlGetState(): parameter optional?

I am surprised to see that the controlID parameter is optional. Is this an error in the Help?

No, this is not a help file error. Whether it should be optional is a different question entirely. Edited by guinness

I think it is a bug. When you run the example script and omit the ControlId the script crashes.

That's true for version 3.3.8.1 and 3.3.9.4

What control would GuiCtrlGetState() apply to?

I suggest that there are two problems here:

  • Autoit should require that GuiCtrlGetState take a parameter

  • Once GuiCtrlGetSate requires a parameter, the help file will need to be changed.

If you don't provide a parameter, the last created control is used. If you haven't created one, it crashes instead of setting an error result. Valid bug, but not for the obvious reasons.

That's incorrect, if you take the example script from the help file for GUICtrlGetState, and remove the variable in the function call, it will crash AutoIt even though there's a control created in the script. Not just a script crash, but the program will abend. Edited by BrewManNH

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Neato. Well I expect my explanation was the intended reason for the optional parameter.
