Hi!

I'm impressed by many new features that have been added through the beta status.

When do you think you will release the next stable version?

I don't like working with many different betas...

Cheers, peethebee

This is something that I've been wanting to ask too -- how do the developers go about this? What factors contribute to the decision to release an official version?

It certainly doesn't appear to be 'number of improvements' -- I've already seen so many just in the betas released since I've been around.

Let's see. The decision is based on a series of questions that all have to work.

  • When does Jon have enough time to manage the new release?
  • Are all the identifed bugs in the program fixed?
  • Are all the bugs identified?
  • Are all the support program updated and debugged?
  • When do we freeze the new features? Most of the developers will have more ideas after a feature freeze, but they will have to wait until after the release unless absolutely incredible.
  • A few other issues that I have not identifed yet.
These are my thought. Others that know more may have other ideas. Take a look at the bug reports forum. When that dies down (particularily in the Open section), we may go for it. Edited by Nutster

Thank you for your post Nutster,

Could you give a rough time horizont (weeks, months or years)?

His post above gave you the best time frame he could come up with. Watch the Open bugs forum. It will give off the vibe when it is probable that a stable release will be issued, but that also (as he said) depends on Jon and his timing.

It's when I have time to manage the release (which I do at the moment) and I think it's stable. It's about 90% there at the moment but there are a few bugs that worry me.

Time to release = x days.

well, real soon wasn't that soon i think

hoping to see the next stable working version soon (although most functions in the beta work stable - haven't found any bugs yet except:

scite always tells me that tcpstartup() and tcpshutdown() are called with wrong number of arguments - donno if thats bad but it hurts my eye B))

Supersize it: "Real soon now - when it's done" :)

Well, almost one year has been passed by... how about a "final" version now? :)

I just love to dig this old thread out

What difference does it make?

Common sense plays a role in the basics of understanding AutoIt... If you're lacking in that, do us all a favor, and step away from the computer.
