WinClose to close all open windows

Recommended Posts

I have spent the past couple of days searching for the answer to this question, and I have not found one that really works.

What I am trying to do, is have the following code always run and when ever notepad is open and idle for more then 2 seconds close it. It works but only when their is one instance of Notepad, if there are more then one it does not close all of them at the same time.

Can someone help me, using this code, to have all windows with the title Notepad close?

#include <Timers.au3>

;Declare the Timer:
; Global $TIMER = TimerInit()

Opt("TrayOnEventMode",1)
Opt("TrayMenuMode",1)

HotKeySet("#{F4}", "_exit") ; Ctrl-Shift-Alt-X to exit

While 1

    ;If this application is active then reset the timer:
    If WinExists("Notepad") And _Timer_GetIdleTime() >= 2 * 1000 Then
     MsgBox (0, "Time reached", "You have been idle for more than 2 seconds.")
WinClose("Notepad")

EndIf

    ;Sleep for 1 seconds before looping again:
;    Sleep(1000)
WEnd

Func _exit()
Exit
EndFunc

grimmlock,

Use WinList to get the handles of any open NotePad GUIs and then loop through the returned array using WinClose on each one. :)

Hiya Melba23,

I copied this from the WinList function (Autoit), I am a little confused as to how to incorporate it :). I do not see where I would put in "Notepad"?

Local $var = WinList()

For $i = 1 To $var[0][0]
    ; Only display visble windows that have a title
    If $var[$i][0] <> "" And IsVisible($var[$i][1]) Then
        MsgBox(0, "Details", "Title=" & $var[$i][0] & @LF & "Handle=" & $var[$i][1])
    EndIf
Next

Func IsVisible($handle)
    If BitAND(WinGetState($handle), 2) Then
        Return 1
    Else
        Return 0
    EndIf

EndFunc   ;==>IsVisible

Thanks

grimmlock,

You need to give a parameter to the WinListfunction so that it only lists Notepad GUIs. As you do not know the titles of all the GUIs, you need to look for the class - which you can get via the AutoIt Window Info Tool. ;)

WinList("[CLASS:Notepad]")

All clear? :)

grimmlock,

$var=WinList(Notepad)

That will not work - you need to use the correct syntax which I gave you in my last post. As you do not know the titles of the various Notepad GUIs, you need to use the class. Look in the Help file under <Using AutoIt - Window Titles and Text (Advanced)>. ;)

grimmlock,

Are all the Notepad instances titled the same? If so then by all means just use that. But why not use the class and make life simpler. ;)

      Hi All,
      Trying to open windows explorer to a WebDav location and it's not working quite how I want, on the computers it is setup as a "network location" (as opposed to a "mapped drive", and this unfortunately can't be changed), the "Data" WebDav folder sits directly under "This PC" if that's an easier way to get to it. any suggestions as to what I can correct to get the 2nd example to work?
      ; This works, but I'm trying to avoid this as users normally see the URL style in the 2nd example below $folderToOpen = "\\mycompany.sharepoint.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\Data" Run("Explorer.exe " & $folderToOpen) ; This does not work, it tries to open the WebDav url in the default web browser $folderToOpen = "https://mycompany.sharepoint.com/Data" Run("Explorer.exe " & $folderToOpen) ShellExecute also opens it in the default browser.
      Saw _WinAPI_ShellOpenFolderAndSelectItems but couldn't get the 2nd example to work.
      If I manually open Windows Explorer and paste in https://mycompany.sharepoint.com/Data it loads the WebDav directory without issue.
      If I have to use the pathing from the first example it is fine, just trying to give users a familiar experience.
      Thanks!

      Hi everyone.
      I want to ask about this :
      I want it runs from 1 to 100 and It opens 10 firefox profiles then access youtube. After I close a firefox window, the loop runs and wait for another window close until loop ends
      I have a loop like this.
      Func launch() Local $from = Int(GUICtrlRead($input1)) Local $to = Int(GUICtrlRead($input2)) If $to <> "" Then While $from <= $to Local $profile = $to _RunDos("start firefox.exe -p " & $profile & " -no-remote youtube.com") $to=$to+1 WEnd Else Local $profile = $to _RunDos("start firefox.exe -p " & $profile & " -no-remote youtube.com") EndIf EndFunc Is there any solution?
      Thank you!

      Hello,
      Either drag drop the opened file on the server and the temp file, Aut2Exe could not copy to the destination file, as that one is opened, to the edits of this GUI, or take the Aut2Exe error message line to your clipboard, the line will be split automatically.
      This script does not check
      For the required rights to the destination folder (to close open file handles) for correct input Use either clipboard (Aut2Exe message), drag & drop, or copy the full paths of source and destination file *IN ONE* (don't type, if you want to do so, modify the script, for me it's fine this way ;-)
      Example Error Message:

      OK, after days looking at my code, the help file and forums I come (again) for help on message windows.
      I'm having trouble trying to close window messages that appear. This is the code I'm using
      #include <MsgBoxConstants.au3> Local $obs_handler = 0 Opt("WinTitleMatchMode",2) While 1 $obs_handler = WinWait("C:\Users\", "", 1) If IsHWnd($obs_handler) then MsgBox($MB_OK, "Message", "handler: "&$obs_handler, 1) ;Sleep(100) $obs_handler = HWND($obs_handler) WinKill($obs_handler, "") ;<<<<< PROBLEM!!!!! Else MsgBox($MB_OK, "Message", "No handler", 1) EndIf Send("{ESC}") Sleep(2000) $obs_handler = 0 WEnd The problem is on the Winkill command, it won't just close the window!
      Winwait is capturing the handler, it checks as handler. Ii'm using the HWND() command just to be sure it is the correct variable type.  I've also checked the message box info with the autoit window info tool and the handle value matches the one captured by the code.
      I've tried winkill, winclose, using wingethandle, moving the winkill command to Before the message box so it is not converted to a string, and now using the hwnd function to force the variable type of the handler. The use of the sleep command does not make any diference.
      As a side quest, I'd like to use classes to capture the windows instead of titles, just to keep things cleaner, but using the [CLASS:...] value for winwait is not working. I have the class name and number, am I missing something?

      Thanks!

      Hello I got problem with final program .exe closing on windows 7 ultimate 64bit. It starts , icon shows on toolbar and program exit.
      I have seen things like that before but it was caused by AV. There is no AV and UAC and firewall off.
      Maybe is there needed any microsoft library or etc or whatever?
