Either way, array created in the timer or outside, the difference isn't all that great. It's still slow no matter how you time the reverse function.

Since there _is_ fully compliant Unicode support built into every Windows system in a very efficient way, I don't see why we shouldn't make use of it. For instance, every Explorer windows sort content

I've moved on from this function and putting my efforts elsewhere. If a MVP decides to pick up where I left off then great, but not many of us have the rights to amend the UDFs.

I hope AutoIt will have more unicode compatible string functions in the future, and I'm sure it should be possible to achieve this while maintaining current efficiency. That was all I really intended to say. I learned something useful in this thread too. I think I overreacted a bit here folks.

You can seemingly double the speed of _StringReverse.

EDIT: well probably not double, but negate the built in copy operation, which I would thing might take longer relative to the length of the string.

I wouldn't pay attention to those results as being accurate. As I've understood AutoIt opens the Dll handle and doesn't close it until AutoIt exits, unless you use DllOpen/DllClose of course. Pardon my obvious question, but I'm using the beta version of the UDFs, is __StringReverse a direct copy of _StringReverse with the addition of ByRef?

2268 pretty much came up with the same answer I gave about Unicode back on page one of this thread, and my change to the function to deal with it that I gave in post #41 in this thread, except I used a different dll than the one referenced in the String UDF

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Correct on both counts, never knew about the dll, thought it performed an internal dllopen and close same as filewrite.

If a dll filename is given then the DLL is automatically loaded and then closed at the end of the call. If you want to manually control the loading and unloading of the DLL then you should use DllOpen and DllClose and use a handle instead of a filename in this function.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I believe trancexx, Yashied and Valik have discussed about this in the past. I'm sure I've seen it mentioned. Could be in the WinAPIEx thread.

FYI, only msvcr100_clr0400.dll works for me on a fairly newly installed Win 7 x64 French with only few apps setup. A new form of dll hell. Heck.

OTOH FreeLibraryModule only decrements ref count for the module and it's only when this count reaches 0 that the module is actually closed & removed. Well that's AFAIK.

This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available). An absolute must have in your bookmarks.

SQLitespeed is another feature-rich premier SQLite manager (includes import/export). Well worth a try.
SQLite Expert (freeware Personal Edition or payware Pro version) is a very useful SQLite database manager.
An excellent eBook covering almost every aspect of SQLite3: a must-read for anyone doing serious work.
