Embedding an INI in an executable

I have a program written that obtains user configurable settings from an ini. Unfortunately the user of this computer is also an administrator of the computer and as a result is changing the configuration settings in the ini and in turn altering the way the program runs.

I to keep the program as an exe and the ini to keep it easily configurable but don't want the user to have access to the ini. Is there any way to embed the ini in, or append the ini to, the executable so that the program will have access to it internally but not leave it or read it from where the users has access to it.

I kind of inviosion it being done during the install. The program, ini and install program would be on a flash drive. The "installer" would set the parameters in the ini and when the install program would run it would either embed the ini in the program or appened the ini to the program and them install it on the computer.

Doable?

Hi, CountyIT. Normally to include an external file you would use FileInstall. But as you have a requirement that the file be accessible to the program (and, assuming, not copied to the hard drive). I would suggest looking at the Resources UDF in the Examples area. It is more complex, but can keep the file from being downloaded to the hard drive.

As well as what JLogan3o13 suggested, look at _Ini_String (search) to manipulate an Ini file without having the physical Ini file.

If I can embed the ini in the program and tell the program to access the embeded ini I don't need to keep the ini on the hard drive.

I kind of invision it being done during the install. The program, ini and install program would be on a flash drive. The installer would set the parameters in the ini while it is on the flash drive. When the installer runs the install progam the install program would embed the ini on the flash drive into the program on the flash drive and then simply copy the program to the computer. The program would then use the ini that was embeded in to it and the ini would never touch the hard drive.
