This exstyle edit constant is ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I retrieved the style and ex-style in hex format of and input control, however I don't want to have "magic numbers" in my script so I would like to have them in the constants format.

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <WindowsConstants.au3>
#include <EditConstants.au3>

Local Const $hGUI = GUICreate("MyGUI")
GUICtrlCreateEdit("transparent and borderless edit", 10, 10, 280, 20, _
BitOR($WS_VISIBLE, $WS_CHILD, $ES_LEFT, $ES_READONLY, $ES_AUTOHSCROLL), _
0x00000004)
GUISetState()

While GUIGetMsg() <> $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
    Sleep(10)
WEnd

GUIDelete($hGUI)

As you can see I could not find what the ex-style "0x00000004" is, which seems to be "NOBORDER".

Thanks for any help.

Br, FireFox.

Hi!

I have already searched in the constants includes files. This one makes no sense according to what it does.

Edit: Thanks anyway for trying to help ;)

That constant isn't in any of the *Constants.au3 files, but if that is really the extended style you got from it, then it is what Nessie found and I found the same thing. It's documented on the MSDN site though. You can always add it to your script.

@BrewManNH

Then I'm really surprised about that.

It changes the display by removing the input border which has nothing to deal with :

The child window created with this style does not send the WM_PARENTNOTIFY message to its parent window when it is created or destroyed.

Perhaps the complementarity of this ex-style with the style in my example removes the border.

Where did you find documentation for the extended style of 0 being borderless? Because according the MSDN, 0 = WS_EX_LEFT + WS_EX_LTRREADING + WS_EX_RIGHTSCROLLBAR which are all default 0 values , no mention anywhere for borderless. Not saying you're wrong, just wondering where you found it.

@BrewmanNH,

All of this makes no more sense to me than supressing parent notification from a child gui (the link you pointed to earlier). So far I am just assuming that I don't understand this. Feel free to enlighten me, please.

From what I read, the windows extended style WS_EX_NOPARENTNOTIFY is used when you create a child window (in this case a control because controls are also considered to be windows) and don't want that control to send a message back to the window that contains it (in this case the GUI) when something happens to or in the control, such as its creation or destruction or when you click the mouse over it.

Why you'd need that, or what it does if you do/don't have that style applied I don't know.
