Hello all

Apologies if this question has been asked before, but is it possible to run a program requiring administrative privileges from a script without admin privileges (i.e. without using #requireadmin)

so far I have resorted to VBS to sort this out and its worked, I was just wondering whether there was an easier way.

Thanks

You can run an external program with elevated credentials, if that is what you're referencing. Check out RunAs in the help file (again, the help file is your friend before posting :) )

thanks for the speedy reply JLogan3o13, but I was thinking more along the lines of putting a function in a script that will restart the script with admin privileges when the function is called e.g.

Func attrib()

If FileExists("C:\Program Files (x86)\Grade Calculator 2\Grade Calculator 2.exe") Then
$p = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Grade Calculator 2\Grade Calculator 2.exe"
Else
$p = "C:\Program Files\Grade Calculator 2\Grade Calculator 2.exe"
EndIf

$open = FileOpen(@TempDir & "\admin.vbs", 1)
FileWriteLine($open, ' ')
FileWriteLine($open, 'set start = wscript.createobject ("Shell.Application")')
FileWriteLine($open, 'start.shellexecute "' & $p & '", "", "", "runas", 1')
FileClose($open)
Sleep(1000)
ShellExecute(@TempDir & "\admin.vbs")
Exit
EndFunc ;==>attrib

In the script above iv resorted to using VBS, I was just wondering whether this was possible using Autoit

p.s. I had a look at the runas command, would running it as system do the trick??

Use RunAs to rerun your script with the required credentials, then exit the original script immediately after.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.
