robertcollier4
Hi - I am relatively new to this forum though have been thinking about tinkering with AutoIt for a while. One thing that I feel really lowers productivity is that all code in [autoit] or tags loses its indentation when posted. I use indentation to greatly help me quickly see the structure and workflow of my code - and UDFs I copy from this forum are completely flat and have to be manually re-indented. I have seen other forums running IPB correctly preserve indentation - so this is my request to please fix the [code=auto:0] and [autoit] tags. water
Welcome to AutoIt and the forum! The flaws of the editor have beend discussed many times on the forum. To preserve indentation when copying code to the editor I first add the [autoit][/autoit] tags and then isnert the code. When you copy code from the forum to SciTE use the Popup button. In SciTE you can use Tidy to re-indent automatically. robertcollier4
Thanks, I see now in basic toggle editing mode I can do it. Still - many UDF functions I have copied from this forum have been without indentation - which leads me to believe many other users don't know how to do this.I have used other forums using this same IPB software such as this in which you are able to push "Code <>" on the toolbar, paste indented code into the popup - hit OK - and the indentation is preserved. So it is possible to have it fully 100% working. Otherwise I feel there should be a sticky informing users how to post their code to keep indentation. When I first tried AutoIt with an example from this forum - it scared me away because I saw a long list of messy commands. A week later I re-looked at it after manually re-indenting it and with the indentation it was simple to understand and read (just trying to make a point that this is an important thing to fix and is fixable). water
If you use SciTE simply press Ctrl-t and the problem is solved. Still - many UDF functions I have copied from this forum have been without indentation - which leads me to believe many other users don't know how to do this.Or it could be because they don't use Tidy by Jos or just correct indentation. water
I'm running FF 19 and often see this "flattening". If I use IE 9 I don't have this problem. So it might be browser related. Moderators Melba23 Posted March 28, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 28, 2013 Hi all,As I have already expained several times, Jon has asked IPB about this many times and has always had a "cannot reproduce" response. Personally I alway use the editor in its basic form and add the BB codes manually - I only get indentation problems very, very rarely. And if you click to go to the full editor rather than remaining in the small version at the bottom of the page you get a "Preview" button to check that all is well before posting. When I edit posts I keep the editor in the basic mode and (assuming there was any to start with) have no problems in retaining the indentation. IPB promise a "much improved" editor in teh next release - let us all hope that this time they mean it because the last "improvement" was the current poor excuse for an app that is causing so much grief to so many people.
