Anyone know what's wrong with this RegRead call?

Hey all,

Very rarely do I code with AI. Trying to get the value of this registry key using AutoIt and it keeps failing. My guess is it's due to the "," and/or "." in the key name, but I haven't been able to find any good info on this type of issue in the AutoIt docs or other Google searches. I've tried escaping each one individually and together using the usual escape character "", also with no luck.

I've confirmed the key names are correct, and also have tried a completely different reg key without the odd characters in my script just to see if it worked normally, which succeeded.

Dim $VMWare_Path = RegRead("HKLM\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware Workstation", "InstallPath")

p.s. Currently using Win8 x64, and I've also already tried using HKLM64 which also failed.

I just tried a RegRead on a value on my system that has both a comma and 2 periods in the keyname, and it worked for me

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESpace Sciences Laboratory, U.C. BerkeleyBOINC Setup"

Are you on a 64 bit system? Try it with HKLM64 instead of HKLM. Also, run it using the 64 bit version of AutoIt if you're on a 64 bit system to see if that helps.

@error returns 1 every time.

Thanks, I've already given HKLM64 a try and was already also using the 64 bit version of AI. I also ran AutoIt3_x64.exe as Admin when I was doing it. >_< Edited April 11, 2013 by GeekDrop

@error = 1 means "unable to open requested key" according to the help file. Looks like AutoIt can't find the key.

Looks fine for me too.

Maybe the "space" in the key is a non printable character and not a space?

The posted script works on my Win7 x64 using x86 autoIT3. The VMWare is 32bits installed in C:Program Files (x86)VMwareVMware Workstation

When running it with the x64 version of AutoiT3 this worked:

aha! Before I read your post I also just happened to give it a run with AutoIt3.exe instead of the 64 bit version, and the 32 bit version did work. I suppose I'll add some 32/64 bit detection code and regread the respective OS. Thanks guys.
