AdlibRegister() and Sleep()

Recommended Posts

This is just a theory I am looking for confirmation on. Can't find a lot of detail on the AdlibRegister() bit it almost appears as though if AdlibRegister() gets invoked at the exact moment you are in the middle of a Sleep() that AdlibRegister() will not get invoked and will not retry. Is the theory correct?

If it is how do you get around this delima? Rather then Sleep(30) put it in a loop of 30 sleeps at 1 sec a piece?

CountyIT,

Rather than post asking for confirmation of some absurd theory that you seem to have dragged out of nowhere, why not write a small script and test it yourself? :huh:

But because you seem unwilling to do so - I have done it for you: ;)

AdlibRegister("_Test", 5 * 1000)

ConsoleWrite("Starting Sleep" & @CRLF)
Sleep(20 * 1000)
ConsoleWrite("Ending Sleep" & @CRLF)

Func _Test()
    MsgBox(0, "Hi", "Do you see me?")
EndFunc

And you can see that your theory is complete "small spherical objects". :P

BTW, Sleep(30) isn't 30 seconds, it's 30 ms.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Actually I did write code. The AdlibRegister() works fine until I go to a function that really does nothing but sleep() at which point the AdlibRegister() stops. In staring at the function the only thing I could come up with was that the long sleeps might have been disrupting it.

Your short example obviously proves my theory wrong which would change the question to "what could possibly stop an AdlibRegister() from working and how would you debug something like that"?

You are still missing the point. If you have code in which AdlibRegister() is not working, post it. Just saying "actually I did write code" doesn't help anyone help you.

I did not say it wasn't working. I said it worked until I went in to a function that "slept" a lot. I was cusious if anyone else has had this happen and possibly suggest some reasons as to what would might cause it to all of a sudden quit working (i.e. it was working but stopped) and how to go about debugging where it stops working and why. If not one has any suggestions I can deal with that.

CountyIT,

Why not just post the code so we can have a look? :huh:

You are much more likely to get a resolution quickly if you do that rather than try to solve it all by yourself - which has obviously not been that successful so far. Debugging is one of the major things we do here, after all, and some of the members are pretty good at it! :D
