Request - what about closing tags for Keywords/Statements

Just thought of something that might be useful, to some...what if we added to SciTE the ability to turn on/off or just leave on, a tool that when ran - like Tidy, or add to Tidy -->> ending statements that put the statement at the end of the Keyword/Statement.

So in this code example

If $var = 1234 then
;;;
;;;
;Many more commands - more then a couple of pages
;;;
;;;
;;;
EndIf  ;==>$var = 1234

Just a thougth - what do you think???

In my opinion, if you have a "more than a couple of pages" of code between an If/EndIf pair you need to recast your code or put it into a function - adding a label to the EndIf will not help.

I think it would make scripts cluttered and confusing. If the code is well written and laid out endif, endWhile etc. should never be that far from the If or While that it is not obvious which pairs match up. If that is not the case then perhaps some of the code in between may be better placed in separate functions.

well, I just used the IF statement as it is quicker to show then a Select statement, but I am talking about where you have a bunch of code for a statement. Sure you can break it up with little functions and make it that way, but in my case I have over 1500 lines in my function, that determines all locations that I admin. Depending on the naming convention of the device - it has this or that location. Since I have Select at the top and that many lines between, as I got down to the bottom I lose track of what goes with what. And let us say I have little functions for each location and subset...now I have to remember every function name and then go through over 8000 lines of code trying to find the function, rather then just the one - that is either a lot of scrolling with the mouse or holding page up, page down for ever

Anyway, it was only an idea...

Here is another one, under the tools section of SciTE, there is a tool called List Functions (Alt+L) it shows about 5 functions, very hard drill to the one you want with moving at 5 at a time, unless you know the name of the function you are looking for. also a pain as you get towards the end of the scroll bar where you now have to jump one function at a time rather then 5 in the middle of the bar - but that might be a design feature of SciTE and cannot be changed?

Will likely be removed totally as we have SciTEJump now included that does a much better job.

Folding works on regions and many functions like IF-Else-Endif; While-Wend ..etc.

Click on the [-] in front of the IF/While/For and you will see that the whole thing collapses till the Endif-else/Wend/Next.
