Help with $Cmdline

I have a GUI based script that works perfectly. But I cannot seem to understand how to make switches work. I only want to make one switch. And I would like to run a psricular function in my script. This function also has a button, if that helps. I would like the switch to be -GetAll

Let me be more clear. I am aware of that help document, but I do not understand it.

I gather that I have to create an array of valid parameters. So lets say I create an array 2 of them. I still do not understand how to specify what the definition of such param is...

You pass parameters to your compiled script in the same way as any other executable:

MyExe file.txt /silent /fred

AutoIt creates the array for you as the compiled script starts - in this case you would get the following array ready for you to access within the script:

$CmdLine[0] = 3
$CmdLine[1] = file.txt
$CmdLine[2] = /silent
$CmdLine[3] = /fred

And $CmdLineRaw would read:

MyExe file.txt /silent /fred

All clear now?

I know this is silly.... But would something like this work as a test?

$CmdLine[0] = 3

$CmdLine[1] = "file.txt"

$CmdLine[2] = "/silent"

$CmdLine[3] = "/fred"

If $cmdline[2] then MsgBox (0, "2","silent")

If $cmdline[3] then MsgBox (0, "3","Fred")

I keep getting "cannot assign value to constant" errors

wait a min.... I may have it, so it os true that I do not have to define the array then? Autoit will assume that my firm param is $cmd[1] and then my IF statement will work?

You cannot assign values to the $CmdLine array as it is an internal array created by AutoIt - hence the errors.

Are you trying to test the command line parameters when running in SciTE? If so, then go to the <View - Parameters> menu item in SciTE and put the required parameters in the dialog that appears. When you run the script, the $CmdLine array is created and waiting to be accessed.

Because $CmdLine is a constant and can't be re-assigned. Hit Shift-F8 in SciTE to add up to 4 commandline parameters and then try the code below.

If you need more than 4 commandline parameters you can put multiple parameters in each box.

Something still is not working correctly. I put values in the parameters dialog, and then did _Arraydisplay ($cmdline) and I get 0.

What code did you use and what commandline parameters did you enter?

Show the SciTE ouputpane information that is generated when pressing F5 so we can see what is happening.

EDIT: Likely you are using a version of SciTE3AutoIt3 that came with AutoIt3 which doesn't have the parsing of the commandline parameters.

I just checked and that was fixed in September 2012, so you would have to install the full version of SciTE4AutoIt3 for this to work.

You are correct sir. I installed the updated version and everything works as expected. And Holy cow does this version have alot more features.... I dont think I like it lol. I was just getting used to Autoit "Lite"

So something to consider. Every example I found sort of assumes that you will put the switches in the correct order. Seems like doing it this way would allow the switch to be contained anywhere

This is why you use a For loop and a Switch statement.
