Query the taskbar

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am an autoit freshman.

I already know how to add/remove the items on taskbar, but I do not know how to check all tasks on the taskbar.

for example, i have to check that there are outlook , Chrome, and skype listed on the taskbar.

Could anybody give me any suggestion?

thanks.

intopic,

Welcome to the AutoIt forum. :)

Why not just check that the processes are running using ProcessExists? Much easier that reading the taskbar. ;)

M23,

Thanks for your reply.

I would like to check all items pinned on taskbar.

ProcessExist checks running process only, so I cannot apply ProcessExist function. >_<

intopic,

This script lists the content of the TaskBar on my Vista system: :)

#Include <GuiToolBar.au3>
#include <Array.au3>

$aList = _List_Taskbar()

_ArrayDisplay($aList)

Func _List_Taskbar()

    Local $aTaskBar_Button = ""

    ; Get TaskBar handle
    Local $hTaskBar_Handle = ControlGetHandle("[Class:Shell_TrayWnd]", "", "[Class:ToolbarWindow32;Instance:4]") ; <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

    ; Get taskbar item count
    Local $iTaskBar_ButCount = _GUICtrlToolbar_ButtonCount($hTaskbar_Handle)

    ; If buttons found
    If $iTaskBar_ButCount <> 0 Then
        ; Create an array to hold the text
        Local $aTaskBar_Button[$iTaskBar_ButCount + 1] = [$iTaskBar_ButCount]
        ; Loop through the buttons
        For $i = 1 To $iTaskBar_ButCount
            ; Store the text returned
            $aTaskBar_Button[$i] = _GUICtrlToolbar_GetButtonText($hTaskbar_Handle, $i)
        Next
    EndIf

    Return $aTaskBar_Button

EndFunc

Use the AutoIt Window Info tool to check that the CLASS and Instance parameters in the line I highlighted (highlit?) are correct for your system - as you talk of "pinning" I assume you are Win7 at least. ;)

It appears that in Win 7 it uses a new class (MSTaskListWClass) which does not respond to toolbar messages. The best article I could find with interacting with it is here but it doesn't get me any closer to using it.

When i think of pinned items, i think of a shortcut in the taskbar, and that, i think it can be seen in the registry, not home, so i can't help.

This is how to access the 'pinned items' using the Windows API. It's just shortcuts and nothing more.

; Search the Forum for WinAPIEx by Yashied.
#include <APIConstants.au3>
#include <WinAPIEx.au3>

ShellExecute(_WinAPI_ShellGetKnownFolderPath($FOLDERID_UserPinned))
