How to get name of $Variable by its value

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

how about a 2d array:

#include <Array.au3>
Global Enum $gs_ERROR_1,$gs_ERROR_2,$gs_ERROR_UBound
Global $ERROR_[$gs_ERROR_UBound][2]
$ERROR_[$gs_ERROR_1][0] = 0xABCD
$ERROR_[$gs_ERROR_1][1] = "error name1"
$ERROR_[$gs_ERROR_2][0] = 0xABCE
$ERROR_[$gs_ERROR_2][1] = "error name2"

$i = _ArraySearch($ERROR_,0xABCD)
ConsoleWrite($i & @crlf)
ConsoleWrite("0xABCD error: " & $ERROR_[$i][1] & @CRLF)

$i = _ArraySearch($ERROR_,0xABCE)
ConsoleWrite($i & @crlf)
ConsoleWrite("0xABCE error: " & $ERROR_[$i][1] & @CRLF)

I don't get what you need this for. But couldn't you name the variables like the value e.g.

Global Const $ERROR_0xABCD = 0xABCD

So you can always tell the name by its value and vice versa.

or maybe you are looking for something like Eval()???

Local $a_b = 12
Local $s = Eval("a" & "_" & "b") ; $s is set to 12

$s = Eval("c") ; $s = "" and @error = 1

No

i had this feeling... but anyway thanks

actually i was getting lazy - function has many error values returned by dll, and while i already have const list, i now should add same info in array[errValue,errDescription] form

but all i wanted is function to return readable message

Global Const $0xABCD = "some error value you defined"
ConsoleWrite(Eval("0xABCD") & @CRLF)

Enter the returned error to Eval...obviously, if multiple function return the same error codes, this will not work...unless you don't use Global Const, and instead make wrapper functions to locally define the errors

converting to hex allows it to work:

;Hex(0xABCD) = 0000ABCD

Global Const $0000ABCD = "some value"
ConsoleWrite(Eval(Hex(0xABCD)) & @CRLF)

example

Global Const $FuncA_0000ABCD = "some value for FuncA"
Global Const $FuncB_0000ABCD = "some value for FuncB"

FuncA()
FuncB()

Func FuncA ()
    Local $0000ABCD = $FuncA_0000ABCD

    ; call your fucntion
    $error = 0xABCD ; simulating an error return
    ConsoleWrite("FuncA error returned=[" & Eval( Hex($error) ) & "]" & @CRLF)
EndFunc

Func FuncB ()
    Local $0000ABCD = $FuncB_0000ABCD

    ; call your fucntion
    $error = 0xABCD ; simulating an error return
    ConsoleWrite("FuncB error returned=[" & Eval( Hex($error) ) & "]" & @CRLF)
EndFunc
