Hello,

  I am having a problem using an array created within a function when I try to access it from the 'main' code and/or another function...perhaps I mis-understand the 'Global' declaration...for example:

#include <File.au3>
#include <Array.au3>

Function1() 

$Z = 0 
$value = 15
$MyArray[$Z][0] = $value ;error here...seems for some reason the array is not being recognized...??? 


Func Function1()

 
 Global $MyArray[1000][30] 
;code here to populate '$MyArray'... 

EndFunc

  In my example above the '$MyArray' works fine within the function that created it...however it seems to throw errors when trying to manipulate it from outside the creating function...I thought that the 'Global' declaration would allow for that?  Thanks for any explanation.

Your code above is missing a Func keyword. Always declare Global outside of functions and preferably at the top of your script.

Sorry...that was a type-O...fixed now.  Can you explain why the Global is preferable at the top of script?  I have moved my Global to the top of the script already however that has not solved my problem...I'm at a loss to figure why?

Thanks for the replies, guinness in that link you provided that isn't actually the same as my example, is it?  In the provided link the 'Global' is declared in a function that is called subsequent to its actual usage...wheras in my example the function is called first and then the created array is attempted to be manipulated after...correct?

Thanks.  I have moved the Global declaration to the top of the script...however it does not change the problem I am having.  Perhaps it is related to the 'While' loop and/or the 'Case' in my example below...?

  As noted in the example the array is properly created and populated...as the "_ArrayDisplay" indicates...the problem is accessing/manipulating it afterword.

What is MainGUI? Function? Variable? Did you read the wiki page about multiple GUIs? Also the problem you presented us with has now changed to something different, so the problem (as I see it) is fixed.

umm OK well I edited the example code (MainGi is simply the window sending the message)...I don't believe it is something different at all...the structure of the problem (in the first example) persists, that is the created array (whether declared within a function or at the top of the script) is not being recognized as an extant variable, even after it has been succesfully established.

Is there something in the Help file that describes what the error messages mean?  I have not been able to find a section like that when searching on the "error" keyword...? 

The undeclared variable is pretty self explanatory, you were using MainGUI instead of $MainGUI. Selecting the error will take you directly to the line with the problem.

OK sorry I made another type-O with that ManGUI thing...I make a lot of them :(  ...so I can assure you that is not the cause of the problem.  I am now confident the 'Global' declaration is not where the problem lies, as verified in your post #8. 

  The problem is that the "$MyArray" cannot have values changed or be otherwise manipulated as it is not recognized within the "Case" (clicking the 'save button') statement...after I have verified that it had been successfully created and populated previously.  I simply get the error messages when that line is encountered...it makes no sense at all.

The code I updated works in AutoIt v3.3.8.1. If the error is in your code then it's probably a typo of some description.
