jaberwacky
Found this on Reddit: http://herbsutter.com/2013/05/28/gotw-6b-solution-const-correctness-part-2/ I was surprised to learn that these two function declarations generate the same function: int f( int ); int f( const int ); Helpful Posts and Websites: AutoIt3 Variables and Function Parameters MHz | AutoIt Wiki | Using the GUIToolTip UDF BrewManNH | Can't find what you're looking for on the Forum? guinness
I've always wondered is there an article on standard practice for the Const keyword. Thanks for finding. Mat
Yes, because you determine at compile time whether or not the function violates the const-ness. How would you expect the code to differ? AutoIt Project Listing
Richard Robertson
No, the example given in the OP is that passed-by-value parameters are const without exception programatically due to them being unable to modify the caller's provided value.
Mechaflash
If const is not utilized, the original passed variable will not be altered, however the passed value can be altered within the function it was passed to. If const is declared, neither the original variable nor the passed value can be altered within the function. Or am I missing the point to this thread? Spoiler “Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a boat with the man your man could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your man smells like Old Spice and not a lady. I’m on a horse.”
jaberwacky
Yeah, now that I think more about it this I see I am kind of confused. Later on I think I will ungarage the ol' c++ compiler and see if she'll hit. If const is declared, neither the original variable nor the passed value can be altered within the function. Or am I missing the point to this thread? That's correct, the point was that the code generated is the same. AutoIt Project Listing
