Open file from some directory

Hi all,

Ive searched around before creating an account to ask this.

But how can I run an autoit script that accesses a specific file from a specific directory?

I've tried

Run("F:FilesMoreFilesTestFilesProgram.bat")

(this is a real test program)

with an error message saying "Program.exe could not be found")

(even though I typed in .bat)

Try ShellExecute for that filetype.

Put quotes around the path and file name, you probably have spaces in it.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I tried doing

ShellExecute("F:FilesMoreFilesTestFilesProgram.bat")

with/ without quotes around file path and file name, and neither worked, still get the error

"Windows cannot find 'ProgramexeProgram.exe'"

no spaces either

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies.

I just tried FileExists

If FileExists("F:FilesMoreFilesTestFilesProgram.bat")   Then
               MsgBox(64, "yes", "yes")

Else
               MsgBox(64, "no", "no")

EndIf

Shows a box that says "yes" so I assume all is ok.

Also the line

ShellExecute("F:FilesMoreFilesTestFilesProgram.bat")

or

Run("F:FilesMoreFilesTestFilesProgram.bat")

is the exact line, the batch file runs smoothly when I open it, (find in explorer, double click, Program.bat works great)

But since everyone says this should be working I'll look into other options...is there a command to open the "start menu"? (like pressing the "window" button on the keyboard?)

I think you are all correct. Unfortunately I am unable to send out the .bat file, but I got around it by doing:

Send("^{ESC}") ;accesses start menu

Send("F:FilesMoreFilesTestFilesProgram.bat")

Send("{ENTER}")

Lazy/sloppy way, but nevertheless does what it needs.
