The ping() function's timeout parameter?

I have read in several threads that, if there is no connection, ping() times out after 15 seconds, independent of the value of the timeout parameter. So, to me, ping's timeout parameter is of limited use. Am I missing something?

This question arose from calling ping to determine whether my router is connected and working properly: Ping('192.168.0.1',200).

I have also read http://www.autoitscript.com/wiki/Interrupting_a_running_function . I am thinking that ping() should be handling the multi-processing, but it appears that it doesn't.

The help file says 4 seconds is the default, not 15, not sure where you read that.

With my network card disabled, the Ping returns in about 5ms with an error code set.

That link is for a non-native function, not an internal one, and what do you mean by multiprocessing?

If you want to check if you're connected to the network, then there is no need for pinging. Look at _WinAPI_IsNetworkAlive in WinAPIEx (check out the AutoIt beta) plus if you want to know whether you're connected to the Internet, then look at _WinAPI_IsInternetConnected (Vista+).

c.haslam, have you looked at the example in the help file under Ping?! It word for word does what you're asking, just change the URL to the IP or DNS name of the machine you want to ping.
