It's not clear from searching, what the status of REG_QWORD is with these REG Functions:

RegRead - Not Supported

RegWrite - Supported

My question is: Why is it that you can write, but cannot read a REG_QWORD?

It can hold a 64bit number. For most REG_DWORD is sufficient.

That is curious.  I just tested this to be sure, and it wasn't able to read it.  You might look into BugTracker to see if this has been reported/requested.  It's pretty inconsistent to leave it the way it is.

For now you can use DLLCall to get the information you need.  wraithdu wrote a >Registry Functions UDF to overcome AutoIt's limitations, if you don't want to code that up yourself.

Yes, but still remains, that if you cannot read it, then how would you know if the value was correct?

Thanks, I'm aware of the UDF, and I might wind up using it.

It still would be good if AutoIt supported the read of a QWORD, since it can write it.

Report a bug as Ascend4nt said and in the mean time try the AutoIt beta. There you will find WinAPIEx and the function _WinAPI_RegQueryValue.

Well the only ones who know why are the Devs. I reckon it could have been lack of support from the OS, which was the case with FileInstall and why Jon had to find a "workaround" until recently. So posting a report can't do any harm.

It couldn't have been an O/S problem, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to add RegWrite ability in the first place.

I've created a ticket #2361 for this.  Should be a really easy solution, like a few extra lines of code I'd imagine.

Works as expected.

To view the value as you would see it in the registry -- you can use Binary().

I'm not sure about other uses for QWORD, except what I've worked with.

Example pseudo code:

$var = RegRead('Key', 'ValueName')
MsgBox(0, 'Result', Binary($var))
