Encrypt and Decrypt String

Recommended Posts

When encrypt text using _StringEncrypt, the result is string like this: "2C12EB6DA866FA40372647D8A5B7930".

It only consist of number and capital letter.

Is there any encrypt function that also return characters like ^&*@!#$ that work both way (encrypt <-> decrypt) using the same function and same key phrase?

Use _Crypt_EncryptData/_Crypt_DecryptData instead

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

The decryption result is the string decrypted, I'm not sure what you're attempting is either smart or possible.

What you post is a hex representation of a byte string, anyway. Any decent encryption will produce random bytes, among them control chars which will be unsuitable for a password.

You might want to consider making a password generator. As an example, I made one for my company because I always need to create user accounts and passwords (and sometimes need to retrieve the password again). I type a person's first and last name into my generator. It uses parts of the names along with ascii values for certain characters to generate a password that is seemingly random, but will come up with the same password if you enter that person's name again.

Example of my generator:

John Doe = Doe537JD

That's just one idea. There are lots of directions you could go. I like my generator because you basically only need to remember the middle 3 numbers to have your password.

I also posted an example script that generates and uses Latin Squares to generate and store passwords using a very simple algorithm that is fairly tough to decipher. The file that the passwords are stored in is also encrypted.

It might give you some ideas.

On systems with higher security requirements this password will not work because of the last name.

The following link describes the requirements for environments that use strong password enforcement.

Thanks Abberration :)

This is not what I really need this time, but much appreciate it!
