Monitoring network usage for an auto shut down?

Recommended Posts

So i am just wondering if there is a way to detect the network usage very minute or so so that i can have my computer shut down once a download/upload is done. im actually not really concerned with upload as i am download.

just for the record, i know that MOST programs have a shut down feature built into them once the client is done downloading but Steam however does not.

Anyways, i was thinking of maybe just monitoring steam but then i thought that if i just have a program that just looks at internet usage and then put a 5 minute timer on it then that would probably work better.

Any ideas on where i should start?

what about standard power settings to shutdown after a period of inactivity?

well as far as i can tell, "inactivity" is based on mouse movements and key strokes. unless there is a way to define what an activity is in windows.

this looks promising. let me experiment with a few things and ill get back to you.
