jaberwacky
Who maintains AU3Check? If it's you Jos then close this window and return sometime after your vacation. =P Anyways, I was wondering if we could have an option to not have AU3Check send the entire path to the AU3 to the SciTE console? I wanted to discuss this here before filing a ticket. So from this: "D:\My\Quite\Long\Path\To\The\AU3\Which\Has\An\Error\MyScript.au3"(11,68) : warning: $some_variable: possibly used before declaration. To This: "MyScript.au3"(11,68) : warning: $some_variable: possibly used before declaration. Or to this: "D:\My\Quite\Long\Path\To\The\AU3\Which\Has\An\Error\MyScript.au3"(11,68) : warning: $some_variable: possibly used before declaration. Reason being is that I have my console window positioned to the right rather than the bottom. guinness
Well Jos has been looking after it in the current beta release. BrewManNH
It returns the whole path because when you have an error in the console, you can double click that error line and SciTE will open the script with the error and go to the line the error is on. I think it needs the path to the file so that SciTE can open it correctly. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. jaberwacky
Actually, that makes a lot of sense. Well that probably settles it. Thanks! Edit: Maybe not. I removed the path and double clicked it and it still jumped to the correct au3. Bowmore
Another reason for retaining the full path, in my opinion, is that the include may be being imported from a different location, due to the include paths not being set up correctly. Having the full path shown makes his obvious "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots. Developers Jos Posted September 5, 2013 Developers Share Posted September 5, 2013 My guess without testing is that we need the whole path to indeed be able to open the file containing the error when double clicking. Relative refferences probably wont work since the workdir will be the current active file you look at which could be in different paths. willichan
You also need to consider that the included file may share a name with another in the search path. For example: If I am experimenting with changes to a function in one of the standard UDFs (or even one of my own), I create a copy of it in the local folder, and change the include statement to use quotes instead of angled brackets. If the error doesn't tell me the full path, I may not catch that the standard UDF is being called by a different include file, and chasing down the bug becomes a real headache while I am debugging the wrong include. jaberwacky
How about a compromise? Can the error message be split onto another line (enabled by an option of course)? Oh wait, that would still have the problems posted previously. OK, well, it might not I don't really know.
