pullmyefinger
trying to get a global var created for one program. I did something like Global $ie then $ie=0 then checked for a situation with IF If fldksjflsdkj then $ie=1 endif three programs later I want to see if $ie = 0 or $ie=1 (program 1 is closed) if $ie=1 then do this endif the condition in the first program was true during testing so $ie should be = 1 but it is ignored. I got compile errors (autoset mustdeclarevars is not set to 1) in the latter program so I had to declare $ie as Global again. It wiped out the old value of $ie as with other programming languages. How do I get the value of $ie to be saved across programs? I thought that's what global meant.
BrewManNH
Wow, that's a LOT of whitespace in that post. Global doesn't mean the variable exists forever, it means it's accessible everywhere within the current script and only as long as that script is running. If you exit the script and restart it, then the variable is recreated, it doesn't use the last value it contained and it's not accessible to another script at all. If you want to save values of variables between runs, or can be accessed by other scripts later, you should use something line an INI file, a regular text file, or the registry. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day.
