Send function not working properly

Recommended Posts

I am beginner with autoIt. I am trying with following code but it is not working properly. Here file vlc-2.0.6-win32.exe is present in the same directory. First two lines works fine but the Send is not working. Can any one tell me why.

Run("vlc-2.0.6-win32.exe")
WinWaitActive("Installer Language")
Send("{ENTER}")

In other thread, I had told that probably I need to wait longer before Enter can be given and need to ensure the correct Control has focus before giving the Enter.
So my question is longer means for exactly what amount of time and how I will recognize that the correct control has the focus.

I happen to have the "vlc-2.0.8-win32.exe" version in my downloads directory, but don't get that screen you are waiting for when starting the installer so can't check.

It changed from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7+, it no longer asks for the Interface language when it's first started.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

BTW, you should probably use ControlSend or ControlClick instead of using Send, it's MUCH more reliable and it will target the actual window you need to send the command to.

Also, I tried that little snippet on vlc 2.0.6's installer and it worked just fine for me.

My solution, would be to stick to one thread instead of opening a new one to deal with the same issue. Second solution would be to use the latest version of the VLC installer instead of a 3 year old version, VLC is up to version 2.0.8 (2.1 version just released). you're installing 1.1.4 which was released in 2010.

I had tried with latest version too, but its not working. And here I have mentioned particularly version 1.1.4 just becuase I was experimenting with different versions that whether any of them works.

Any way can you kindly provide some solution for my problem.

expertD,

Threads merged. As BrewManNH mentioned, please stick to just the one thread at a time in future. :naughty:

And also please stop using coloured fonts - your final post is how we like to see them. ;)
