Handling Dynamic control ID/Advanced mode value

 Share

Recommended Posts

I want to read value from a text box but the issue i am facing is, the controlID gets changed every time the controls are loaded so is the advanced mode value.

I was using "ControlGetText" which was working fine if the correct ControlID or "Advanced mode" value is provided.

Is there any other way to can get the controlID value and/or "Advanced mode" value as and when the controls appears??

>>>> Control <<<<
Class: Edit
Instance: 9
ClassnameNN: Edit9
Name:
Advanced (Class): [CLASS:Edit; INSTANCE:9]
ID: 1706278
Text:
Position: 917, 170
Size: 297, 21
ControlClick Coords: 31, 10
Style: 0x54010880
ExStyle: 0x00100200
Handle: 0x001A0926

TIA.

Does the class/instance change every time? If it doesn't use that for identifying which control is which. The handles and ids usually change every time it runs, so you have to determine what doesn't change and what identifies the correct control.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Class name remain same, though instance changes every time the controls are launched.

Just the position, size and control click coords remains same.

Is there a way to read value using click or selecting the text using mouse and can read the value ??

If you look in the help file for ControlGetText click on the link where it says See Controls, there's a way of using the X,Y,W, H of a control instead of it's ID. Although you could try looping through a set number of Instance numbers to find the correct control, but might be tricky and I've never used it myself.
