enable non-admins to install printers XP

Hi,

Would this work for allowing a non-admin to install a printer on Windows XP? I found it on another job board Does this code need tweaking? I am not sure if I need the options that the original scripter included. Once compiled is there any chance this could be hacked and the local admin password revealed?

My other thought would be to manipulate the local GPO policy to enable the setting that allows a non-admin to install a printer. Can this be done with AutoIT and if so would it involve secedit or using Send Keys. I don't program AutoIT well so I would like to keep it as straight forward as possible.

That script is very old and won't run under the current version of AutoIt, RunAsSet followed by the Run command has been replaced by just using RunAs.

Your script will not be safe enough to store the password in it if the users have any kind of technical knowledge or are just curious.

You'd be better off using a login script and GP to allow regular users to install printers.

that's not the way.

push the relevant printers drivers into the Windows driver cache of every workstation. then let PnP install the driver, or use the logon script or GPO to connect the driver to a network port. this has no dependencies on user rights on the workstation.
