The help file is a wonderful thing for reasearching before posting. It points out that UPX is used for compression, and even has a link to the website

I did check out the website before posting but my exe is literally 1kb smaller with UPX enabled 16,318kb with upx, 16,319 without. I would of expected it to be quite significant otherwise I cant see much point, this is why I was wondering does it do anything else which I cant find documented.

AutoIt exes are usually about 700k uncompressed and around half that when you use upx, so I am intrigued by this 16k figure you quote. Could you explain exactly how you are compiling these scripts and give us an example? :huh:

Hi

I have 'included' other files in my executable which is why its larger than usual - these are external files which are extracted at various points as the program is used - I wanted to include them in the exe as it seemed more 'tidy' when distributing as a standalone program (they are extracted to a temp directory which is then cleared when the program is exited), without these the script is quite small as you say. Would my included files not be compressed with the script and is this why i'm not seeing much of a difference?

If the included files are already compressed they usually won't be compressed much more if at all. Especially files like jpgs or exes that have been previously compressed.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Has anyone tried compressing a 64-bit executable with the latest version of UPX v3.91? I personally don't use UPX nor do I use any type of compression for executables, but I compiled the following script below using the 64-bit compiler of AutoIt and it was 958,976 bytes to 411,648 bytes.

upx --best --lzma %1

results in 336.078 bytes for the x64 executable.

Thanks. I won't use it myself. but was simply interested to know if the current version actually works on 64-bit compiled programs.

I did mean 16MB not kb :) purely down to the added content. I have also just compiled my script twich x86 & x64 versions with no difference in size - I never need 64 bit executables for my scripts but just out of interest where would you specify the parameters '--best --lzma %1'? would this require running 'Aut2exe.exe' from the command line as I cant see anything in the gui for this?
