Ok, so if my script is as such:

FileDelete("C:\Users\Public\Desktop\ABC_Desktop*.lnk")
Sleep(10)
Exit

It works.... but if i use a variable:

$OldShort="C:\Users\Public\Desktop\ABC_Desktop*.lnk"
FileDelete($OldShort)
Sleep(10)
Exit

it does not...

am i missing something or is this a bug in autoit?

What OS are you running, and what version of AutoIt? Your second snippet works just fine for me on 64bit WIN7.

I'm running The latest stable of autoit(3.3.8.1) and windows 7 x64 Ultimate

Alright I found it, it was a bug in my windows, I fixed it. Sorry guys, close this thread. My apologies....
