supraspecies
Here's the situation. External installer runs "launcher.exe". There is no window. I need to close that launcher.exe. By PID? I could use Run..., but I'm not the one who runs it. Simply "ProcessClose? Don't wanna risk it, there might be other processes named "launcher.exe" running on user's system. I know the location of that "launcher.exe", but it does me no good as of yet. How would I close this "launcher.exe" and ONLY this one? I don't see how would I grab PID of an already running process considering there may be more than one process with that same name. Any suggestions? Like grab PID of the process that refers to the file location, for example. EDIT: Uhm... What if I use Run... to launch an already open process (only one instance is allowed)? Would that return existing PID? Edited November 8, 2013 by supraspecies
BrewManNH
ProcessList will give you the PID of the running programs that match the name you're looking for. There's a thread about getting the file location from the PID somewhere in the forum, not sure where but a search should find it. supraspecies
I don't need the file location, I already have it. What I'm saying is - assume i have five running processes named "launcher.exe". how would I close a specific one? I was wondering if maybe it would be possible to close a process that refers to a specific file. Something like: Close launcher.exe that is located at C:*****. Moderators Melba23 Posted November 8, 2013 Moderators Share Posted November 8, 2013 supraspecies,ProcessList gets you a list of processes with a common name along with their PIDs. Use the "get location from PID" code BrewManNH mentioned to find the PID of the one that matches the known location and then use that PID in ProcessClose.
