_FileReadToArray can't read a 2D array wrote with _FileWriteFromArray

If I write a 2D array to file using _FileWriteFromArray (keeping default delimiter "|" for 2D arrays)

and then I read it with _FileReadToArray (always with default settings)

all what I obtain is a 1D array that ignores delimiters, thus with values like "aaa|bbb|ccc".

Help page for _FileReadToArray doesn't mention that it can't read 2D arrays written by _FileWriteFromArray.

Is this expected and well known?

What about adding it to the help page?

_FileReadToArray reads into a 1D array, it doesn't know or care about the contents of the file other than looking for line endings.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

_FileReadToArray()/FileReadToArray() just reads the file to an array by splitting at the EOL character, not a bug and something so obvious doesn't need to be added in my humble opinion. Search CSV split in the Forum please.

My assumption was that _FileWriteFromArray() and _FileReadToArray() were complementary functions, seeing the names similarity, seeing each other as "Related" functions and not seeing any "Array dimension > 1" in errors produced by _FileReadToArray().
 

How did you all learn that _FileReadToArray() can't read 2D array wrote with _FileWriteFromArray()?   by trial and error like me?  by remembering some citation in this forum?

Where in documentation did you read that _FileWriteFromArray supports 1D and 2D arrays while _FileReadToArray() only supports 1D arrays?

and where in the attached example do you see a test with 2D array?

I can't see anything of these things...

Check the $sDelimeter (spelt wrong, but fixed in the latest beta) parameter.

_FileReadToArray does not support any form of array - it generates a 1D array from a file. So there is no reason to have any mention of it "not supporting 2D arrays". :)

There are several FileTo2DArray scripts out there - why do you not create a feature request in Trac and see what response you get. ;)
