OK here's the deal. The is a server running in a shop, infact lots of shops be we only need to deal wit one at a time.

I need to find one of the computers to do a software update, but whats the best way to find it?

I can use a limited number of known possible computernames but some have been changed or not set up coorctly.

Is there a way of using network Neighbohood to do this for you?

I was concidering a massive ping routine, starting with the 3 fixed octets and then just pinging 2 > 254, chances are we'd get 2 ping replies and from that we could find out what they are and run the update.

Looking for the sysmplist solutiob really!

Thanks fo your time

Chris

Hi!

I think there is a DOS command named "net view".

Google for that. Than you would need techniques from the thread called "Pipe DOS output" in this forums to get the results and analyse them.

Good luck, peethebee

Cheers for that..

Sorry about the spelling last night, I'd taken my sleeping tablet and it had obviously started to kick in!

It's actually quite funny to read in the morning ;)
