Any AutoIt's Aut2exe compiler since version 3.3.6.1 generates slower executables

Hi Everyone here,

I appologize beforhand if this question does not belong here or was already discussed elesewhere. I am new to the forum and could not find any reference to my problem by conducting several search attempts.

I have compiled an AutoIt script which reads a .XLS file into its memory. When I compile it under Aut2exe v.3.3.6.1 it runs more than twice faster than the one I compiled under v.3.3.8.1 or 3.3.10.2. I always set the same settings for compilation.

If anyone needs more information, please let me know.

Can you please describe what you do with the Excel workbook? Which functions do you use?

Thak you "Water" for your quick response.

I use the "ObjCreate()" to interact with the XLS file. I then open the pertaining workbook and start reading the file one row at a time, until all the filled rows are loaded into a memory array. I extract some cells from each loaded row, upon reading it. While looping, I also display and update a ProgressOn() window.

Reading Excel data row by row can be quite slow.

I suggest to try my rewrite of the Excel UDF (for download please see my signature). Reading data is 20 to 100 times faster depending on how you did it before.

BTW, have you yourself experienced any performance degrading from aut2exe v.3.3.6.x to v.3.3.10.x?

This aspect was discussed ad nauseam by the time the object (COM) code was fixed, as it was buggy. The result was correct but infered some performance slowdown. AutoIt has moved forward since then.

Thank you for addressing my problem.

As it turns out, I'm completely oblivious to the discussion you referred to.

Unfortunately, I encountered the performance slowdown in the latest AutoIt version, namely, 3.3.10.2. Can you kindly guide me as to what can be done to rectify the adverse effects?

Well I think the obvious would be to post a short reproducer of what you're doing to make the claim that AutoIt is alot slower. I dunno about you, but I would rather have a non-buggy version of AutoIt than buggy. Maybe that's just me though?! -_0

I haven't. But performance isn't an issue with my scripts.

How do you measure performance? Is it the total run time of your script? Something else?

Well, to all who asked me,

My measurements are based on comparing the performance of the same code compiled, i.e. in the form of an exe file, by two different AutoIt versions, namely 3.3.6.1 vs. 3.3.10.1. I ran them both one by one as well as concurrently on the same system without any environmental changes. The program loads a .xls file row by row and display load time while looping through the rows. The net result is that the one compiled with the newer AutoIt version runs approximately 2.5 times slower while loading the data (results slightly vary with random system load, but I have conducted these tests repeatedly over a considerable period of time and let others do the same independently, in order to get a reliable result)
