running autoit script as administrator

Hi all

I’m farely new to autoit and am trying to write a script that interacts with the windows bootmanager using bcdedit

If I run bcdedit from a command prompt as the normal user I get the following

The boot configuration data store could not be opened.
Access is denied.
If I right click on command prompt and choose run as administrator

And then run Bcdedit, it runs normally.

The script code looks as follows

#include <Constants.au3>
#include <MsgBoxConstants.au3>
 #include <Array.au3>
 #include <String.au3>

; main section
; This script requires full Administrative rights
#RequireAdmin

; run bcdedit and store list in array
Local $iPID = Run(@ComSpec & ' /C bcdedit /enum /v', "c:\", @SW_HIDE, $STDOUT_CHILD)
ProcessWaitClose($iPID)
Local $SBootManagerList = StdoutRead($iPID)
MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "output", $SBootManagerList)
I’m not sure where to go to fix this. I tried to use the runas function which seems to fail, possibly because on the windows 8 machines the administrator account is disabled. Anyone got any suggestions on how I can get this to work? Edited by Melba23

nallan,

Welcome to the AutoIt forum. :)

But please pay attention to where you post - the "Examples" section where you started this thread is clearly marked: "This is NOT a general support forum!". I have moved the thread for you, but would ask you to be more careful in future. And when you post code please use Code tags - see here how to do it. Then you get a scrolling box and syntax colouring as you can see above now I have added the tags. ;)

this worked for me:

#include <Constants.au3>
#include <MsgBoxConstants.au3>

global $user="userwithadminrights"
global $pw="password"
global $sCommand = "bcdedit /enum /v"

global $iPID = Runas($user, @LogonDomain, $pw, "",@ComSpec & " /c " & $sCommand,"",@SW_HIDE, $STDOUT_CHILD)
ProcessWaitClose($iPID)
global $sOutput = StdoutRead($iPID)
ConsoleWrite($sOutput)

First post to help please be gentle, using RunAsWait ( "username", "domain", "password", logon_flag, "program" [, "workingdir" [, show_flag [, opt_flag]]] )

I use mine like this

RunAsWait($username, "mydomain", $password, 2, $robocode)

An attempt at fixing yours.

RunAs($username,"Domain",$password,2,@ComSpec & ' /C bcdedit /enum /v',"c:\", @SW_HIDE, $STDOUT_CHILD)

Edit: Darn Jochem you beat me haha :D GJ sir

I can only seem to get the runas function to work if I use the builtin administrator account, which I have to enable. all other accounts even those in the administrators group don't seem to allow access to bcd data store. Is enabling the built in administrator account the only way I'm going to be able to do this?

As mentioned If I run cmd using right click run as administrator, gives me access so was hoping I could emulate this operation somehow in a script. I'd rather not enable the administrator account if I can avoid it.

You have other users that are administrators, but you don't want one called administrator? Seems odd to say the least, have you thought about renaming the built-in administrator account name?

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
