@error resets?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am working with autoit 3.3.6.1 (this is the version I must work with)

I have a piece of code which fails because of what seems like @error resetting. So, I have something like:

Dim $o_login = _IEGetObjById(...)

MsgBox(64,"after o_login IEGetObjById", StringFormat("error level is: %d", @error)) ; error level is 4 (WTF? it doesn't even ;show in the documentation or ie.au3

AssertErrorLevel()

Func AssertErrorLevel()

If (@error<>0) Then ;@suddenly @error = 0. How can I make this logic work then?

...

EndIf

EndFunc

@error resets after every function returns, if the function returns with no errors then @error will be 0. You'd have to assign the value of @error to a variable and either pass that variable to the function, or make that variable global so that the function can see it.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Thanks for the help BrewManNH. Although it seems like it's with every function *invocation* rather than return, because otherwise it would not have reset it on function call. Setting it to another variable and passing that variable in the function worked! :)

I searched the net for return code 4 btw, didn't come up with something (it's not in the documentation!) Has anyone encountered that? I looked at the code at ie.au3 but until now I didn't find anything.

Thanks!

MsgBox returns @error set to zero.
