stringregexpreplace better than stringregexp?

is stringregexpreplace better than stringregexp?

it seems faster since you dont really have to do error checking - worst case scenario you just get the string back.. however with stringregexp you have to do error checking then get the array record you want.

for instance, i want to get the version (470.068) from this string

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<PackageConfig>
<LocalVersion>470.068</LocalVersion>
</PackageConfig>

with stringregexp

$results = StringRegExp($data, '<LocalVersion>(.*?)</LocalVersion>', 3)

if @error then
msg(0,"","error")
return
endif

with stringregexpreplace, wouldnt it just be one line?  by the way what would be the equivalent - havent figured it out yet

BTW you can't get an array of results using SRER

in some cases we dont want an array of results.. but in lots of cases we're just after 1 result =)

Anyway, there is no better function, it depends what are you trying to achieve. Different tools for different purposes.

It depends on what you want to use the function.

If you want to change the protium String A to string B is actually better is StringRegExpReplace.

If you want to string which is a number, add changing the numeric value, you definitely need to use StringRegExp.

It was a sample code, obviously you'll need to manage the pattern depending on what you exactly want - in this case (?s) if the dot in the leading and trailing  .*  must match newlines
