Setting @extended value into a variable

I realise there is the SetExtend function, but it only works for hard set values which in my case @extended is not...

I have a value in @extended following StringReplace to count the number of occurences of a word, however I cannot set that @extended into a variable that I could use later in my code.

Any suggestions?

"$someVariable = @extended" doesn't work? Just remember, just like @error, you have to read the macro immediately after the function you are calling or it gets reset by the function executed after it.

$String = StringReplace($String, "[", "[")

MsgBox(0, "", "Number found = " & @Extended)

$Var = @extended

MsgBox(0, "", "Number found = " & $Var)

 

From the first msgbox, the output of @extended is 6 as expected, but the output of $Var from the second msgbox is 0.

 

What am I missing?

As has already been pointed out, every function sets @error and @extended. You are saving the @extended from the MsgBox(), not StringReplace().

The fact that calling a function resets both @error & @extended - so you need to store the value before you call the first MsgBox:

$String = "one[two[[three[four five] six[ seven["

$String = StringReplace($String, "[", "[")

$Var = @extended

MsgBox(0, "", "Number found = " & @Extended)

MsgBox(0, "", "Number found = " & $Var)
