Good Afternoon

I am trying to figure out how to path a Environment Variable to an exe...

ShellExecute("%Server_software%\Intergraph\CADWorx 2013_R2\Plant_PID\setup.exe")

Start --> Run  %Server_software%IntergraphCADWorx 2013_R2Plant_PIDsetup.exe works but I am not sure how to make this work in AutoIT.

What do you mean Guinness ? Since ExpandEnvStrings is set to 1, all environment variables are expanded from any string, until it set to 0, is it good ?

So to avoid any problem, I should do

AutoItSetOption("ExpandEnvStrings", 1)
ShellExecute("%windir%\notepad.exe")
AutoItSetOption("ExpandEnvStrings", 0)

... or use _WinAPI_ExpandEnvironmentStrings() instead :rolleyes:

I mean just that, if the user wants to display %WINDIR% as is in a messagebox, then they will have to do as you suggested (though not recommended), since all strings change globally if you set ExpandEnvStrings to 1.

An improvement to your code would be...

Func _ExpandShellExecute($sPath)
    Local $iPreviousOption = AutoItSetOption("ExpandEnvStrings", 1)
    Local $iPID = ShellExecute($sPath)
    AutoItSetOption("ExpandEnvStrings", $iPreviousOption)

Alternatively you could just use the EnvGet function and not have to worry about UDF's or options. ;)

$Server_software = EnvGet("Server_software")
ShellExecute($Server_software &"\Intergraph\CADWorx 2013_R2\Plant_PID\setup.exe")

Of course we are guessing that your particular environment variable actually exists and contains the string
