I understand. I will remember in future not to suggest code enhancements to you. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

:huh2:

That's an odd response.  You made a few suggestions, I tried what you said in order to better my code, I disliked it and said so and why.  If that hurts your feelings then you need to grow a tougher skin.

You are undoubtedly a better programmer than I am, which is exactly why I tried some of the programmatic improvements you suggested.  If you have some actual, beneficial reasoning why I should continue to practice some of these ideas I would love to hear them, in all seriousness.  What good is it for me to continue to post code if it is poorly written?  Folks like you can (and DO) teach me a lot.  So leave the childish bullshit behind and realize that I was trying out what you said, failed to see why it is important, and look forward to getting some helpful explanations why I need to change my ways.

Ian

My projects:

  • IP Scanner - Multi-threaded ping tool to scan your available networks for used and available IP addresses, shows ping times, resolves IPs in to host names, and allows individual IPs to be pinged.
  • INFSniff - Great technicians tool - a tool which scans DriverPacks archives for INF files and parses out the HWIDs to a database file, and rapidly scans the local machine's HWIDs, searches the database for matches, and installs them.
  • PPK3 (Persistent Process Killer V3) - Another for the techs - suppress running processes that you need to keep away, helpful when fighting spyware/viruses.
  • Sync Tool - Folder sync tool with lots of real time information and several checking methods.
  • USMT Front End - Front End for Microsoft's User State Migration Tool, including all files needed for USMT 3.01 and 4.01, 32 bit and 64 bit versions.
  • Audit Tool - Computer audit tool to gather vital hardware, Windows, and Office information for IT managers and field techs. Capabilities include creating a customized site agent.
  • CSV Viewer - Displays CSV files with automatic column sizing and font selection. Lines can also be copied to the clipboard for data extraction.
  • MyDirStat - Lists number and size of files on a drive or specified path, allows for deletion within the app.
  • 2048 Game - My version of 2048, fun tile game.
  • Juice Lab - Ecigarette liquid making calculator.
  • Data Protector - Secure notes to save sensitive information.
  • VHD Footer - Add a footer to a forensic hard drive image to allow it to be mounted or used as a virtual machine hard drive.
  • Find in File - Searches files containing a specified phrase.

I think you've misunderstood me totally given the tone of your last post, and since I am not one to write "word walls", let me explain briefly. People like KaFu, trancexx, MrCreatoR, M23, Mat, jchd, BrewManNH, czardas, jaberwacky critique my work all the time, though I don't get offended by it, instead I look at how they did it or their enhancement and take it as a chance to learn a new technique. You strike me as a user who is happy to stay in the realm of AutoIt being a scripting language, which isn't a bad thing, but AutoIt is much more than that. I did ask if you are happy for suggestions, to which you obliged. So lets just say I kind of knew it was heading this way yesterday.

So no I am not hurt, though do feel I could have used my time more wisely instead of getting into this unnecessary debate that I tried to avoid.

I personally have found the transition from AutoIt to C# easy, because of the "programming practices" I have picked up from the Forum/Help file. For example explicit declaration, variable naming for type safety, object orientated-like UDF creation to name a few. So I guess it's a question of whether you're happy with where you are now as a programmer or wish to learn more?

If the whole thing was misunderstood I apologize, but the reply just seemed very sarcastic and curt with the "I will remember in future not to suggest code enhancements to you. Sorry for any inconvenience caused." line after I tried what you said to try.  I never get offended by suggestions or criticisms, but was annoyed by what seemed like a dismissal for no good reason,  Of course I want to learn more in order to improve.  If I used your suggestions the wrong way then some correction would go towards using them right.  I was looking at all of the Locals I was using in some of the functions and thought it would probably be best to declare everything at the top of the function rather than inline, but satisfying the wrapper made sense to me at the time.

I have written programs that I am not able to post to the forum that demonstrate AutoIt's incredible flexibility, such as my former employer's product and special order management system, technician performance/profitability tracking, inventory management system, and pricing/barcoding systems.  I don't consider it just a scripting language, but it is the only language I use so if some methods used in other languages don't show up in what I do, that is why.

So, enough of this sillyness, back to the code.  All suggestions welcome!  :)
