Designing a filtered array

Hello all,

Looking for a little direction here to get started...

I will return the main array of say...  1000 computers

Then create a GUI with dropdown lists

First dropdown list would be building.

Building1

Building2

Building3

The bulding name would be included in the computer name.  Then I would have a second dropdown with which Floor of the building they were on.  As I select these, I would like to see the list filter down.

So my question is really would I use _ArrayFindAll for this mostly, then loop through and create data for the dropdowns?  Or is there an easier way?

You could create arrays for each building+floor combo.  Then no filter would be needed at all.

Such as in an array of arrays.

That is a fine idea, But I would still have to populate them somehow based on some type of criteria, but you are saying that would be the only "Filter" then correct?

Does it make sense to maintain a large array, or "Array of Arrays?"  Or would I be better off maintaining seperate arrays for each combination?

Performance is supposed to degrade if the array of arrays is too large.  But if you only have 1000, i doubt it will matter.

I threw them all into an array, so it's easier to loop through, and grab data.  If you use multiple arrays, you would still need to have some sort of naming convention to cycle through them, and grab your data. (which is possible, but not as easy as a simple loop).

Thanks for your help.  How would I populate the array? 

Say I had a PC that was named ComputerMain2FLJane

Main is the building

2FL is the floor

Would I just use If StringinStr = 2FL then _ARRAYADD to $FLOOR2?

Where are you getting your data from before it enters the program? Are you going to type the info for all 1,000 computers yourself?

SQLite could certainly be put to some use here.
