Can't control gpedit.msc

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I want to create a simple script to open gpedit.msc and navigate to a particular group policy item using either mouse or cursor keys.

My problem is that once Autoit opens gpedit.msc it no longer seems to send any key presses or even move mouse.

For example, if I run below code, it opens Group Policy Editor, but then does nothing.

ShellExecute("gpedit.msc")
Sleep(5000)
Send("{DOWN}")
Send("{DOWN}")
MouseMove(10,10)

But if I run following, it opens notepad, sends "TEST" and moves mouse to top left corer with no issues.

Run("notepad.exe")
Sleep(5000)
Send("TEST")
MouseMove(10,10)

Any ideas?

MS has certain programs which you can't control using AutoIt or any other GUI automation software. Use PowerShell or something similar.

The forum search function gives you a lot of examples.

;). But how water said, is not an "attractive" way

Not sure what "attractive" has to do with running the script at the right authorisation level...
