Unable to open notepad file with AutoIt

Hi all, beginner here (15+ years since my last dabbling in code)

 

I've searched extensively in Help and in various threads here, and I feel like I've tried everything. No matter what, I can't get AutoIt to open a notepad file.

From >here, I have tried this

$program_location = @ProgramFilesDir & "\Folder\program.exe"
$file_location = "C:\Desktop\text.txt"
Run( $program_location & " " & $file_location & "")

 

From >here, I have tried this

 

$_Run = "notepad.exe" & $sTextFile

ConsoleWrite ( "$_Run : " & $_Run & @Crlf )

Run ( $_Run, @WindowsDir, @SW_MAXIMIZE )

 

I have tried ShellExecute and OpenFile too, and this is the code i'm trying to integrate it into, with something else I've tried:

I've tried so many more things trying to get this to work; I've been watching youtube tutorials and working with examples etc, but I've got no clue why it won't open the file. No tutorials seem to cover what I want. Am I doing something drastically wrong?

ConsoleWrite ( "$_Run : " & "$_path" & @Crlf )

will show you:

$_Run : $_path

not the value.

You can try this:

ConsoleWrite ( $_Run & " : " & $_path & @Crlf )

you can try also this:

$_path = "M:\autoit\training\test.txt"
$_Run = "notepad.exe"

Run($_Run & " " & $_path)

You can try this:

ConsoleWrite ( $_Run & " : " & $_path & @Crlf )

 

This doesn't open the file, but pops a line in bottom of SciTe:

notepad.exe  : M:\autoit\training\test.txt

you can try also this:

$_path = "M:\autoit\training\test.txt"
$_Run = "notepad.exe"

Run($_Run & " " & $_path)

This unfortunately doesn't open the file either, and doesn't pop the same lineas above in SciTe.

I'm running as admin, with UAC turned off, I've tried compling the script instead of running in SciTe, is there something fundamental that I've missed? I'm guessing it's a very beginner problem

Notepad is in the windows directory:

@WindowsDir

not

@ProgramFilesDir

Maybe this is it. Where is the location of the text file you are trying to open?

ok try this:

Run("notepad.exe" & " " & @ScriptFullPath)

Is it opens in notepad your scirpt ?

I just made this and it opened my file

Run(@WindowsDir & "\Notepad.exe" & " " & "C:\LiqList.txt")

This worked as well

$program_location = @WindowsDir & "\Notepad.exe"
$file_location = "C:\LiqList.txt"
Run($program_location & " " & $file_location)
;Run(@WindowsDir & "\Notepad.exe" & " " & "C:\LiqList.txt")

com; seems it was defaulting to wrong directory to open notepad.exe, setting the full path of notepad opened notepad correctly

mL; yes thats perfect thanks, although it opened my current project file as notepad file, after editing @SFP to $_path it works perfectly

How it looks now, marking it solved, thanks again
