objcreate to get Windows Update Info on remote host

Recommended Posts

I am trying to read the installed Windows Updates remotely, but objcreate always connects to the local PC, not the remote host.

here is my code:

$objSession = ObjCreate("Microsoft.Update.Session","REMOTEHOST")
MsgBox(0,"",@error)
$objSearcher = $objSession.CreateUpdateSearcher
$patches = $objSearcher.Search("IsInstalled=1 and Type='Software'")

$NeededCount = $patches.Updates.Count
MsgBox(0,"",$NeededCount)

I get no error, but i am not able to connect to the remote host (my account has admin privileges on the remote host)

Can anybody help me?

Search the Example Scripts forum for 'Scriptomatic'. That generates WMI queries for you.

Thanks for the info to this nice script, but a wmi querie will not help me, cause i also want to install updates over this script, so i have to use the createobj function.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa387102%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

In powershell and VB it is working like a charm, but i dont get it to work with autoit...

$objsession = [activator]::CreateInstance([type]::GetTypeFromProgID("Microsoft.Update.Session","REMOTEHOST"))
$objSearcher= $objSession.CreateUpdateSearcher()
$patches = $objSearcher.Search("IsInstalled=0 and Type='Software'")
$patches.Updates.Count

this work for me.

Local $updateSession = ObjCreate("Microsoft.Update.Session")
$updateSession.ClientApplicationID = "MSDN Sample Script"
Local $updateSearcher = $updateSession.CreateUpdateSearcher()
Local $searchResult =$updateSearcher.Search("IsInstalled=0 and Type='Software'")

ConsoleWrite( "!List of applicable items on the machine:" & @CRLF)

For $i = 0 To $searchResult.Updates.Count-1
    $update = $searchResult.Updates.Item($i)
   ConsoleWrite( $update.Title & @CRLF)
Next
$updateSession=0
$updateSearcher=0
$searchResult=0
$update=0

Saludos

Hi Danyfirex,

thanks, you are right that is working (also on my site)!

But I'm trying to list the Updates from a remote system, not the local system.

I can do this with VBS without any problem, but over AutoIt its not possible for me.

I tried a workaround (over ScriptControl) and thats working:

$strWks = "REMOTEHOST"
$objSC = ObjCreate("MSScriptControl.ScriptControl")
$objSC.Language = "VBScript"
$code = 'Set Session = CreateObject("Microsoft.Update.Session","' & $strWks & '")'
$objSC.AddCode($code)
$objSC.Run
$objSession = $objSC.codeobject.session
$objSearcher = $objSession.CreateUpdateSearcher
$colUpdates = $objSearcher.Search("IsInstalled=1 and Type='Software'")
$NeededCount = $colUpdates.Updates.Count
m($NeededCount)

I think i open a BUG Ticket for objcreate

I think this should work.

Local $sREMOTEHOST="here your memote host"

Local $updateSession = ObjCreate("Microsoft.Update.Session",$sREMOTEHOST)
$updateSession.ClientApplicationID = "MSDN Sample Script"
Local $updateSearcher = $updateSession.CreateUpdateSearcher()
Local $searchResult =$updateSearcher.Search("IsInstalled=0 and Type='Software'")

ConsoleWrite( "!List of applicable items on the machine:" & @CRLF)

For $i = 0 To $searchResult.Updates.Count-1
    $update = $searchResult.Updates.Item($i)
   ConsoleWrite( $update.Title & @CRLF)
Next
$updateSession=0
$updateSearcher=0
$searchResult=0
$update=0

For excample:

Set objSession = CreateObject("Microsoft.Update.Session", "REMOTEHOST")
Set objSearcher = objSession.CreateUpdateSearcher
Set colHistory = objSearcher.QueryHistory(0, 1)

For Each objEntry in colHistory
    Wscript.Echo "Title: " & objEntry.Title
    Wscript.Echo "Update application date: " & objEntry.Date
Next

What are you using in the "REMOTEHOST" string for the computer name?

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
