beast,

You certainly cannot do this using GUICtrlSetState, not can you do it with the more likely GUICtrlSetStyle. ;)

You need to send a message directly to the control to alter the character used to mask the password:

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <EditConstants.au3>

$hGUI = GUICreate("Test", 500, 500)

$cInput = GUICtrlCreateInput("Password", 10, 10, 200, 20,  BitOR($ES_PASSWORD, $ES_AUTOHSCROLL))

$cButton = GUICtrlCreateButton("Display", 10, 100, 80, 30)
GUICtrlSetState($cButton, $GUI_FOCUS)

GUISetState()

; Get current passowrd character
Global $sDefPasswordChar = GUICtrlSendMsg($cInput, $EM_GETPASSWORDCHAR, 0, 0)

While 1

    Switch GUIGetMsg()
        Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            Exit
        Case $cButton
            Switch GUICtrlRead($cButton)
                Case "Display"
                    ; Clear passwprd character
                    GUICtrlSendMsg($cInput, $EM_SETPASSWORDCHAR, 0, 0)
                    GUICtrlSetData($cButton, "Mask")
                Case "Mask"
                    ; Reset password character
                    GUICtrlSendMsg($cInput, $EM_SETPASSWORDCHAR, $sDefPasswordChar, 0)
                    GUICtrlSetData($cButton, "Display")
            EndSwitch
            ; Focus on input to refresh content
            GUICtrlSetState($cInput, $GUI_FOCUS)
            GUICtrlSetState($cButton, $GUI_FOCUS)
    EndSwitch

WEnd
All clear? :)
